Meet the Artist ...

Melanie Cambridge

My main artistic influences come from working outdoors, indeed, most of my paintings are produced either from on location studies or actually started on location, even in winter, with light and colour playing a major role in my work. Favourite subjects tend to involve water, I particularly enjoy painting the English coastline, views from the banks of the River Wey in Surrey and from my narrowboat which I often use as a mobile studio in the summer months.

I have written four art instruction books to date, all published by HarperCollins, three for oil painters and one beginners book on acrylics. As a teacher I run workshops and painting holidays mainly here in the UK, teaching in oils and acrylics. Have a look at my artist courses page for details of the latest events including a fabulous opportunity to enjoy full day's tutored sketching cruise along the River Wey in Surrey from Guildford town centre.

Original works are available in Surrey at both The Wey Gallery in Godalming, and Paolo Francis Gallery, South Croydon. See examples of recent works on the galleries page or visit my links page for full contact details for both galleries. I am also a professional associate of the SAA and an exhibiting member of Guilford Art Society.

In June I shall be taking part in the Surrey Open Studios project, sharing space with three other artists, a jeweller and two ceramic artists in studio space in Redhill. Full details available soon on the exibitions page.
